Start with the roof, because that is where the 8 Series choice really begins. Roof up, you can take the sleek four-door Gran Coupe or the M8; roof down, there are two convertibles. Every one of them is a grand tourer first and a fast car second.
The 840i Gran Coupe is the calm one, with a 3.0-litre inline-six making 333 hp and rear-wheel drive. The M850i xDrive Gran Coupe moves into another league with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 and 530 hp. Both M850i convertibles, the 2023 M850i and the M850i xDrive, have V8 power and a soft top that folds in seconds, even on the move at low speed.
The M8 is the most extreme of the five: a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, M xDrive and four seats. The convertibles and the M8 suit two people with luggage or four on a shorter run. The table below puts all five side by side on year, power and price.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a BMW 8 Series cost to rent in Dubai?
From AED 449 per day, with weekly rentals from AED 3,090. The M850i xDrive cars cost the least, and the M8 is the most expensive.
Coupe or convertible, which suits Dubai better?
The convertibles are for evening drives along the coast with the roof down. The Gran Coupe and the M8 are better when you want a closed cabin and full air conditioning in the heat.
Is the BMW 8 Series good for long drives?
Yes, that is what a grand tourer is for: strong engines and a comfortable driving position. 250 km per day is included, and insurance is part of the price.
