A Defender fits a business lunch as easily as the dunes near Liwa. We keep all three body lengths so the choice comes down to how many people you carry rather than the budget. All of them have permanent all-wheel drive, and all sit taller and wider than most crossovers.

The Defender 90 is the short three-door version for five, the most nimble and the cheapest. The Defender 110 (3.0-litre, 400 hp, five seats) is the all-rounder: it looks substantial in the city and takes a gravel track in its stride. The Defender 130 is the long version with eight seats in a 2+3+3 layout and the same 400 hp engine. For a large family or a group of friends it removes the need to rent two cars.
