SUVs and crossovers make up half our fleet and two-thirds of enquiries. People drive them in Dubai not because they need off-road ability, since there are no unpaved roads in the city, but because they are spacious, tall, comfortable on the highway and entirely at home in a car culture where the Nissan Patrol is as ordinary as an estate car in Europe. Here is a breakdown by purpose rather than by brand.
A family with two children for a week
Hyundai Creta or Kia Seltos at AED 130 to 150 a day: five seats, a boot for two large suitcases plus a pushchair, around 7 litres per 100 km. The higher seating makes fitting a child seat easier, and the dimensions let you park anywhere. With three children, or grandparents along, the seven-seat Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe or Chery Tiggo 8 Pro at AED 190 to 230. Their third rows suit children and teenagers, but for a ninety-minute run to Abu Dhabi that is enough.
A group of six or seven adults
Nissan Patrol, Toyota Land Cruiser 300, Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon. All have three proper rows and a boot that stays useful with every seat occupied, which is not true of seven-seat crossovers. The Patrol Titanium at AED 450 is the most popular choice: familiar, reliable, unshowy and driven by half of Dubai. The Tahoe at AED 350 is cheaper and roomier inside thanks to its American packaging. The Land Cruiser 300 at AED 600 is quieter, faster and more prestigious, with a 409 hp turbo engine.
Touring all the emirates
Toyota Fortuner at AED 280 or Land Cruiser Prado 250 at AED 400. Both are body-on-frame with high ground clearance and low-range gearing, yet noticeably more economical than the big V8s. They climb the mountain roads of Hatta, Jebel Jais and Jebel Hafeet easily, and the highway to Fujairah passes without fatigue. Driving onto sand remains contractually forbidden, but on gravel car parks at beaches and viewpoints they feel more assured than low crossovers.
Status and impression
The Mercedes G63 AMG at AED 1,300 is the visual symbol of Dubai, rented for a day for the photographs and the feeling, with an exhaust note you hear before you see the car. The Range Rover Vogue at AED 1,300 is quieter and more dignified, chosen by those who value quality over volume. The Lamborghini Urus at AED 1,800 is the fastest SUV you can rent. The Rolls-Royce Cullinan at AED 3,500 tops the list in price and in seating height, with rear seats raised for a better view. The Cadillac Escalade at AED 850 is the American answer, with a curved 38-inch display and a 36-speaker sound system.
The electric option
Tesla Model Y at AED 350 and Model X at AED 700. Chargers are everywhere in Dubai: at malls, ENOC stations and hotels, with Tesla Superchargers at a dozen locations. A day of city driving fits comfortably within range; Abu Dhabi needs one top-up on arrival, usually while you are sightseeing. The upsides are silence, instant torque, air conditioning that runs without an engine and half the fuel cost. The downsides are planning charging stops and adapting to screen-based controls.

About fuel consumption
Special 95 petrol in the UAE costs about AED 3 a litre, diesel slightly more. The gap between a crossover using 7 litres and a V8 using 16 at 100 km a day is around AED 27 a day, or AED 190 over a week. Not decisive for a few days, but over a month covering 3,000 km the difference reaches AED 800, which is comparable to the difference in the rental rate itself.
Parking and dimensions
Full-size SUVs over five metres long barely fit standard bays in the underground car parks of residential towers in the Marina and Downtown, where bay widths were designed for sedans. Height matters too: many underground car parks are limited to 2.1 metres, and a Patrol with a roof box will not fit. If you are staying in a tower, check your parking bay dimensions in advance.
Booking notes
SUVs are the first to sell out in the winter season and during school holidays, so book two to three weeks ahead. The G63, Urus and Cullinan have the same requirements: minimum age 21 and one year of driving experience. Child seats are fitted free at delivery in any SUV. Delivery within Dubai is free on rentals from 7 days regardless of the car class.

Choose by boot space, not seat count
A common booking mistake is looking only at the number of seats. A seven-seat crossover like the Kia Sorento leaves 190 litres of boot with all rows up, which equals two small backpacks. With seven passengers and suitcases it simply does not work.
The rule: seven people with luggage need a full-size SUV with a long rear overhang, a Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Yukon leaving 720 litres, or a van-bodied minivan such as the Hyundai Staria or Toyota Hiace. Seven-seat crossovers are designed for five people with luggage, or seven without it on short trips.
SUVs and parking in Dubai
Dimensions matter more than you would expect. A standard UAE parking bay is 5 metres long and 2.4 wide. The Nissan Patrol at 5.17 metres and the Cadillac Escalade at 5.38 overhang the markings, which in underground car parks means a rear end sticking into the drive lane.
Height is critical: underground car parks in Marina and Downtown residential towers are usually limited to 2.0 to 2.1 metres. A Nissan Patrol at 1.95 fits; a high-roof Toyota Hiace at 2.28 does not. Check before booking if you are staying in a tower.
Width matters too: the Lamborghini Urus and Cadillac Escalade exceed 2 metres with mirrors, which is noticeable in the narrow aisles of older Deira car parks.
