A car rental deposit in Dubai is the amount the company blocks on your bank card against fines, damage and unpaid Salik. Typically it is AED 1,000 to 1,500 on an economy car, 3,000 to 5,000 on crossovers and premium models and 10,000 to 20,000 on supercars. The money is frozen at handover and released 14 to 30 days after return, once the company is sure no fines have arrived. We work without a deposit across the whole fleet, from a Kia Pegas to a Lamborghini, and this guide explains how that works and what you need to know.

Why a deposit is a problem

For a visitor a card hold is not an expense, yet it still costs. First, it has to be a credit card; many companies refuse debit cards. Second, the bank converts the sum twice, at the hold and at the release, and keeps the exchange difference. Third, the money is out of reach for the whole holiday and a month after. And guests with cards from Russian banks cannot place a deposit at all, because those cards do not work in the UAE. For many people that alone is what makes renting in Dubai fall through.

What we do instead

We block nothing and ask for no cash. Four things do the job instead.

  1. Photos at handover. We photograph the car from every side, the wheels, the glass, the interior, the odometer and the fuel gauge. The pictures go to you on WhatsApp and a second set stays with us. We repeat this at return.
  2. The contract. It holds your passport, licence and contact details and the rules: the insurance excess, how fines are passed on, what is not covered. We photograph the documents ourselves.
  3. Insurance with an excess. If an accident is your fault you pay the excess, from AED 1,500 on economy cars, and only after the police report and a damage assessment. If the other driver is at fault you pay nothing. Full cover with zero excess is available for AED 30 to 50 a day.
  4. Pay as incurred. Fines and Salik crossings arrive within 1 to 30 days of return; we send them to you with photos and you pay the actual amount. We charge no handling fee.

One note for those paying by card: the rental amount itself goes through as a pre-authorisation and is then charged in the normal way. That is not a deposit; nothing beyond the rental price is blocked. Cash and bank transfer involve no pre-authorisation at all.

Which documents you need

  • Passport with a visa or entry stamp.
  • Your national driving licence, plus an International Driving Permit if your country is not on the UAE's recognised list. The country list and how to get an IDP are in a separate guide.
  • A phone with WhatsApp for contact and photos.

No credit card is required. Minimum age is 21 with one year of driving experience, and the requirement is the same for every car.

Which cars qualify

All of them. Economy sedans, seven-seat crossovers, Range Rovers and Ferraris all go out without a deposit. The only difference is the size of the excess: it is higher on expensive cars, which is why on premium and supercars we strongly recommend full cover. For cars above AED 1,000 a day we may ask for the rental to be paid in advance; that is payment for the service, not a deposit, and it is only forfeited if you cancel less than 24 hours before the start.

What happens with fines after return

Dubai's cameras post a violation to the car within one day to two weeks, Salik within a day. For 30 days after return we check the database and, if anything arrives, send you a message with the amount, date, location and the camera photo. You can pay by transfer, by card or through us on the Dubai Police website. All fines on a car are publicly visible by plate number, so nobody can slip you someone else's violation and you can check everything yourself.

How to spot a genuine no-deposit rental

No deposit has become an advertising phrase, and sometimes the same old thing hides behind it.

  • Security hold, blocked amount, pre-authorisation. A deposit under another name. Ask directly whether anything beyond the rental price will be blocked on your card.
  • Compulsory no-deposit insurance at AED 50 to 100 a day. There is no deposit, but you pay for its absence daily. With us full cover is a choice, not a condition.
  • An AED 5,000 excess on an economy car. No deposit, but after any scratch the bill is bigger than a deposit would have been. Our economy excess starts at 1,500.
  • A cash deposit against a handwritten receipt. The worst option: the money is gone and there is no bank record of a hold.

Checking is easy: ask for the contract before booking and search it for the words deposit, hold and excess. We send the contract on WhatsApp in advance.

In short

Zero deposit on any car, nothing blocked, no credit card needed. In place of a deposit: photos, a contract, insurance with an excess and fines paid as they arrive. Documents: passport, licence and an IDP where required. Delivery to your hotel or the airport is free on rentals from 7 days and AED 210 for delivery and collection on shorter ones.
