Deira is the old commercial heart of Dubai on the north bank of the Creek, with the gold and spice souks, the abra stations on the waterfront and DXB airport 10 minutes away. Our office is in Dubai Marina, 30 to 40 minutes away outside rush hour, so for Deira we bring the car to your hotel or apartment building. The handover takes about 10 minutes. Parking in Deira
The streets are narrow and zones A and C are mixed together, with many residents-only bays in the evening, so read the signs carefully. Street parking costs AED 2.10 to 4.20 an hour depending on the zone and time of day, with a four-hour maximum stay in zones A and C, and is free from 10 pm to 8 am, on Sundays and on public holidays. By the souks there are spaces in the morning and none by midday. Older car parks in Deira have narrow aisles, where a large SUV over 2 metres wide with mirrors is hard work, and a compact car is easier on these streets.
Crossing the Creek and driving from Deira
Deira connects to the rest of the city through the Creek crossings: Al Maktoum Bridge, Al Garhoud Bridge, Business Bay Crossing and the Al Shindagha tunnel. In the morning, 7:30 to 9:30, and in the evening, 17:00 to 19:00, they are a bottleneck; Al Garhoud is usually easier than the overloaded Al Maktoum. The Al Maktoum, Al Garhoud and Business Bay Crossing bridges and the Airport Tunnel have Salik gates, AED 4.20 or 6.30 per crossing depending on the hour. The Floating Bridge crosses the Creek free of charge during the day and closes at night. To get to Bur Dubai at rush hour, the AED 1 abra across the Creek is the fastest way; leave the car parked and come back for it. In the old streets pedestrians cross anywhere, so stay alert. Hatta is about 1 hour 20 minutes away, the first dunes about 40 minutes.
Delivery terms
On rentals of 7 days or more, delivery and collection anywhere in Dubai, including DXB airport, are free. On shorter rentals they cost AED 210 for both legs together. There is no deposit on any car, and 250 km a day are included.
