A classic street-and-building-number address does not work well in Dubai. Many buildings have no conventional postal address, street names often do not match what shows up on a map, and the same tower can be listed under three different names at once. To fix this the city built Makani, a digital exact-location code. Knowing your Makani number is useful for any delivery, including our car showing up at your hotel or apartment.
What Makani is
Makani, Arabic for “my place”, is a Dubai municipal system that assigns every building, and often every entrance to it, a unique 10-digit number. Unlike a postal address, Makani does not point to a street and house number, it points to an exact geographic location, essentially coordinates packed into a short number. Nearly every building in the city has one: residential towers, office blocks, villas, malls.
What a Makani number looks like
It is a string of 10 digits, for example 128071 45905 (the space is just for readability, you type it as one block). A plate with the number is often mounted near the main entrance, at reception, or on the curb next to the building. Apartments and villas do not always display one physically, but the number can always be looked up on a map.
Where to find your Makani number
- The official Makani website or app run by Dubai Municipality, by address or directly on the map.
- Google Maps: many buildings in Dubai list their Makani number in the place card, under the address.
- A plate at the building entrance or in the car park.
- Ask the hotel reception or the apartment concierge, they usually know the building's number by heart.
Why it matters for delivering your rental car
We deliver free anywhere in Dubai on rentals of 7 days or more, and for AED 210 for delivery and collection together on shorter rentals, and the exact handover spot matters. In a large residential complex or a tower by the water, a postal address often only points to the whole block, not the specific entrance or car park where it is actually convenient to meet. Makani removes that ambiguity: the driver types in the 10 digits and arrives at the right entrance, instead of circling a cluster of near-identical towers looking for the right one.
This helps most in complexes like Dubai Marina, JBR or Business Bay, where several similar towers stand close together and the guest entrance and the underground parking entrance can be on opposite sides of the building.
How to give us your Makani number
The easiest way is to put it in the delivery address field when booking, or send it to the coordinator on WhatsApp before the driver arrives. The number alone is usually enough, there is no need to describe the route or the floor separately, though if you have a specific entrance or parking spot in mind it is worth mentioning.
What to do if you cannot find a Makani number
This happens with new buildings not yet in the system, or if you simply cannot spot the plate quickly. A few alternatives work just as well:
- A pin dropped on the map and sent over WhatsApp straight from Google Maps or Apple Maps: hold the point on the map, copy the link and send it to us.
- The hotel or complex name and building number if there is one, plus a landmark such as “main entrance facing the waterfront”.
- Live location shared in WhatsApp once you are already at the spot waiting for the car, the most reliable option if nothing else has worked.
For DXB and DWC airports Makani is not needed, we track you by flight number and terminal instead, and the driver meets you at the arrivals exit.
Makani for hotels and villas
Most hotels in Dubai have their Makani number on file at reception, often printed at the front desk or in the room information folder. For villas in gated communities like Emirates Hills or Arabian Ranches, Makani is especially useful, because many villas look physically alike and the house numbering inside a community is not always intuitive to an outsider.

The city grew very fast, and construction often outpaced the kind of formal street naming and house numbering familiar from Europe or Russia. As a result many areas are described by landmarks rather than a conventional street-and-number address: a complex name, a tower number, the nearest interchange. Even residents tend to know a building by its name rather than its formal postal address. Makani exists as an answer to exactly this: it does not replace the complex name, it adds an exact geographic reference on top of it, equally clear to you, the driver, or for that matter a courier or an ambulance.
Other situations where the same number comes in handy
Once you have found your Makani number for the car delivery, it works for everything else too: food delivery, courier services, taxis, and in an emergency it is the fastest way to tell a dispatcher exactly where you are without describing how to navigate a complex out loud. It is worth saving the number in your phone's notes for the length of the trip, it is not tied to any one service and works the same way for any delivery in Dubai.
How to enter Makani into a map or app
In the Makani app itself, typing the 10 digits into the search bar is enough, the system immediately shows the point on the map and confirms the address. In Google Maps you can paste the number directly into the search bar, and in most cases it locates the right building without needing to switch to another app. If you search on the Makani website, you can also see the numbers of neighbouring buildings if you are not sure which one is yours.

Combining methods is fine: you can give your Makani number at booking and still send a pin over WhatsApp on delivery day just in case, which is never a bad idea, especially for a first trip to an unfamiliar complex.
