An AED 11 gap a day, but the difference is not only in price
The Yaris and the Corolla are the two most affordable cars in our fleet: the Yaris starts at AED 119 a day, AED 770 a week and AED 2,650 a month, the Corolla at AED 130 a day, AED 840 a week and AED 2,850 a month. Over a week the gap is only AED 70, over a month around AED 200, so on price alone the choice barely registers. But the cars sit in different classes: the Yaris is a compact hatchback-sedan, the Corolla a sedan a class up, and the difference in cabin and boot space is more noticeable than the difference in price.
Engine and character on the highway
The Yaris runs a 105 hp engine, the Corolla 121 hp. At city speeds the difference is barely felt, both cars are lively enough for lane changes and overtaking in traffic. On the highway, especially accelerating to overtake on Sheikh Zayed Road or merging onto Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, the Corolla has a noticeably bigger reserve of power, pulling more confidently and working less hard at speed. For city driving this rarely matters, for frequent trips between emirates the Corolla feels calmer.
Cabin and boot
The Corolla is longer and wider than the Yaris, which shows directly in the back row: an adult in the Corolla's rear seat gets noticeably more legroom, the Yaris seats two comfortably in the back but a third adult feels tight on a long drive. The Corolla's boot fits two large suitcases and a bag, the Yaris's boot is built more for one large case and carry-on luggage. For one or two people with light luggage the difference barely matters, for a family of three or four with a week's worth of suitcases the Corolla is noticeably more practical.
Ride and suspension comfort
Both cars are tuned for comfort rather than sporty driving, which makes sense for a city with smooth roads and gentle interchanges. The Corolla, thanks to its longer wheelbase, absorbs bumps more gently, especially over lane joints and speed bumps in residential areas. The Yaris is more compact and reacts more sharply to steering input, which helps when parking and in dense traffic where you need to squeeze between lanes quickly, but on long highway stretches the bigger Corolla feels more settled.
Parking and manoeuvrability
Here the Yaris has a clear edge: smaller dimensions and a tighter turning circle make it easier to handle in tight underground parking at older buildings and on the narrow streets of Bur Dubai or Deira. The Yaris turns in a smaller radius, and squeezing into a tight bay in Marina or Downtown is easier with it. For anyone planning to move around the dense central part of the city often, this difference is felt every day.

Fuel use and trip cost
Both engines are economical for their class, but the Yaris's 105 hp unit works a little easier and on average burns less fuel at city speeds. The Corolla's consumption is higher by roughly a litre or two per hundred kilometres, and the difference shows mostly on long highway stretches, where the 121 hp engine is moving a heavier car. On rentals of 5 days or more the first tank of fuel is included for both models, after that refuelling is up to the renter, and it is worth checking the current petrol price on the ADNOC or ENOC app before a long trip since prices are revised monthly.
Technology and standard equipment
Both cars are 2024 models, fitted with air conditioning, a reversing camera, Bluetooth and USB media support, and the standard safety package expected on a modern sedan: ABS, airbags, stability control. The equipment gap between the Yaris and the Corolla is minimal, both come similarly fitted, so the choice between them comes down to size and engine power rather than a list of extra features.
Typical routes for each car
The Yaris suits a city-based itinerary well: Dubai Marina, JBR, Downtown, shopping at Dubai Mall or Mall of the Emirates, short trips to the beach. Its compact size and easy parking make a day with several stops in the centre comfortable without fussing over where to leave the car. The Corolla feels more confident on highway routes: a day trip to Abu Dhabi, a drive to Al Ain or Fujairah, where the extra power for overtaking and the roomier boot for stops along the way both count.
What both cars share
Rental terms are identical for both models: minimum rental 1 day, no deposit, age 21 with at least 1 year of driving experience, 250 km of mileage a day included, with any excess charged at a fixed economy-class rate, usually around AED 1 per kilometre. Full insurance is included on both cars, and delivery and collection anywhere in Dubai are free on rentals of 7 days or more, or a flat AED 210 for delivery and collection together on shorter rentals.
Insurance and deposit
Both cars carry standard insurance, covering third-party liability and own-damage, already built into the rental price. A full zero-excess cover is available as a paid add-on for either car if you want it, it is worth asking for the current rate when booking since it is reviewed from time to time. There is no deposit on either the Yaris or the Corolla, and payment by card, cash or bank transfer is settled in full at booking.
Booking for a month or longer
On a monthly rental the gap between the two cars becomes more noticeable in absolute terms: AED 2,650 for the Yaris against AED 2,850 for the Corolla, a difference of AED 200 over the month. For anyone renting long term, say for a work assignment or a winter stay in Dubai, that is a sum worth weighing against how often highway trips are planned and how much everyday cabin space actually matters.
Bottom line
If you are travelling alone, as a couple, or with one suitcase for a short city trip, the Yaris covers everything and costs less. If you are travelling as a family, driving between emirates often, or simply want more room in the back and a bigger boot, the AED 11 a day premium for the Corolla pays for itself in comfort from day one. The price difference is small, the practical difference is bigger than the numbers on the price list suggest.
