How to Extend a Car Rental in Dubai: Timing, Price, and What If the Car Is Booked

Plans in Dubai change often: a flight gets moved, one more meeting appears, or you just do not want to give the car back yet. Extending a rental is almost always possible, the real question is how much notice to give and how it affects the price. Here is the process step by step.

Step 1: tell us as early as you can

There is no strict minimum notice period, but the earlier you let us know, the better the chance your car stays with you without a gap. One to two days before your current booking ends is ideal, that is enough time to check whether your car is already booked by someone else right after you, and to recalculate the rate. Message us on WhatsApp or through your account, there is no need to come to the office at Princess Tower.

If the decision comes at the last minute, on the actual day the rental ends, still message us. If the car is free, we can extend it the same day. We just cannot guarantee a same-day extension, so the earlier you flag it, the calmer the process.

Step 2: we check the car's availability

If your car is not booked by the next customer right after you, the extension is confirmed quickly. If it is already booked, you have two options: move to an identical model if one is free in the fleet, or we will suggest the closest match by class and price. You are never switched to a lesser car without being asked, you always decide whether a substitute works for you.

Step 3: the price is recalculated for the new total length

An extension is always recalculated at the current rate for the new combined rental length, not at the price locked in at the original booking. That works in your favour: if you first took the car for 5 days at the daily rate and the extension brings the total to a week, the whole period is billed at the weekly rate, which is cheaper than the daily one. The same happens when the combined length crosses 3 weeks and the monthly rate kicks in.

Days already paid for are not recalculated retroactively toward an even cheaper rate, but the overall total almost always ends up lower than if you extended day by day without any recalculation.

Step 4: paying for the extension

Same as the original booking, full prepayment applies, no deposit. You can pay the difference by card, cash or bank transfer, the same as the main rental. There is no need to sign a new contract, the extension is added as an amendment to the current one.

What if the car is already booked by someone else

This happens, especially with popular models in high season from November to March. If your exact car cannot be extended, we will offer a substitute in the same class, for example a different car from the same line as a booked Range Rover Velar, or something comparable in capacity and equipment. If there is no equal substitute, we will tell you honestly and early so you can plan an alternative, whether that means booking another company for the extra days or adjusting your route.

This is exactly why early notice on an extension genuinely saves stress: 2 to 3 days before the booking ends we can see the car's whole calendar and either confirm the extension or warn you honestly that the model is taken.

Extending a supercar or premium model

The logic is the same, but demand for specific cars is higher and there are fewer spare units of each model in the fleet. If you took a Lamborghini Urus for the weekend and want three more days, it is better to flag that on day one of the rental rather than the last day. Cars at this level get booked up fast, especially around weekends and holidays.

Extending a monthly rental

If you are already on a monthly rate and want to stay another month, the same principle applies: tell us early, we check availability, and recalculate at the current monthly rate. This is usually the simplest case for long-term renters, a monthly car is less likely to be booked out on the same day, since bookings at that length tend to be planned well ahead.

How to extend, step by step

1. Message us on WhatsApp or through your account with the new return date you want.
2. We check whether the car is free for those dates.
3. If it is, we send you the recalculated total for the whole rental at the applicable rate: daily, weekly or monthly.
4. You confirm and pay the difference by whichever method suits you.
5. You keep using the car with no new handover paperwork, though for very long extensions we may suggest a short inspection.

Common mistakes

Waiting until the last hour before return to decide, especially with a popular model in high season. Assuming the extension automatically bills at the same rate as the first days, it does not, the recalculation runs on the new total length at the current rate. Forgetting that crossing the weekly or monthly threshold moves the rate in your favour, so it can pay to plan the extension to land right on that threshold.

Extending around peak dates

Around New Year, during GITEX in October and through school holidays, a large part of the fleet is booked many days ahead, and extending in exactly these windows works worst when the request comes late. If you expect to stay in Dubai longer than your original dates and the trip falls in one of these periods, it is better to raise a possible extension at the time of the first booking rather than waiting until you are midway through the trip.

Example: how crossing a rate threshold saves money

You take a Toyota Corolla for 5 days at the daily rate of AED 130, totalling AED 650. Three days in you decide to stay 3 more days, bringing the total to 8 days. Eight days at the daily rate would already cost more than the weekly rate of AED 840, so the whole period is billed at the weekly rate instead, and the extra cost works out to roughly AED 190 rather than the 390 a pure daily rate for 8 days would have added. The earlier you know you are staying longer, the easier it is to land the extension right on the favourable threshold instead of missing it by a day.
