The listing for most of our cars says: 250 km per day included. To some people that sounds like a lot, to others not enough. In practice it all depends on the route. Below are the distances from Dubai Marina to popular places, rough calculations, and an answer to the main question: what happens if you go over the limit. All distances are approximate and depend on the starting point and the road you take.

What 250 km per day means

It is the mileage included in the rental price for each day. It is counted from the car's odometer: the reading is recorded at pickup and at return, and the difference is checked against the limit. That is why it helps to photograph the dashboard both times.

Two things are worth asking when you book: how the limit is counted over several days (separately for each day or as one total for the whole rental), and whether the same limit applies to the specific car you want. The terms of individual cars, especially partner and sports cars, are shown on their pages.

How many kilometres a normal city day takes

Distances inside Dubai are shorter than they seem, but the city is stretched along the coast. A typical tourist day is made of a few trips: hotel, mall, waterfront, dinner, and back. That usually comes to 60 to 120 km, less than half the limit.

Route from Dubai MarinaOne way, km (approx.)Round trip, km (approx.)
Palm Jumeirah10 to 1520 to 30
Downtown and Dubai Mall25 to 3550 to 70
DXB Airport35 to 4570 to 90
Sharjah, centre50 to 60100 to 120
Ras Al Khaimah, city110 to 130220 to 260
Abu Dhabi, centre130 to 150260 to 300
Hatta130 to 150260 to 300
Fujairah140 to 170280 to 340
Al Ain140 to 170280 to 340

These figures leave out driving around the destination itself, and you will drive there too: Abu Dhabi, Hatta, Al Ain and the coast all add tens of kilometres.

Day trips to other emirates

The table shows the main point: a long round trip in one day will most likely go over 250 km. Abu Dhabi, Hatta, Fujairah or Al Ain in a single day usually means about 260 to 340 km plus driving at the destination. If you plan a trip like that, work out in advance where you will end up on the odometer.

  • If you want one long day and several quiet ones, ask us whether the limit is counted as a total over the rental.
  • If you stay overnight, split the trip over two days, for example to Abu Dhabi and back the day after.
  • If you drive far almost every day, tell us when you book and we will suggest the best option.

Toll roads are counted separately: Salik in Dubai and Darb in Abu Dhabi are paid by the renter at actual cost, and they have nothing to do with the 250 km.

What happens if you go over the limit

Beyond the limit there is an extra charge for each additional kilometre. We do not state the rate here: it depends on the car, so ask us before the trip, not after. It is better to ask for a calculation in advance than to get an unexpected bill at return. The main rule: if you plan to drive a lot, discuss it before you pick the car up.

For a monthly rental (30 days) the limit is also worth clarifying separately, as it is easier to agree the terms in advance. If you need a car for work with high mileage, tell us the planned distance for the month.

Which car to choose for long distances

On long drives fuel consumption and comfort matter. Fuel is paid separately and is not part of the rental price. Prices are as of October 2026; the current price is on each car page.

Electric cars, such as the Tesla Model 3 (250 AED a day), are great in the city, but for a long trip plan charging ahead and ask us about the range. These cars come with no deposit. Partner cars have different terms: a 1,000 AED deposit and a minimum of 3 or 7 days, shown on each car's page.
